Position Overview
The Second Stage Theater General Management department is seeking a full time Associate General Manager to support the oversight of all administrative functions of Second Stage’s productions and events. Reporting to the General Manager, the Associate General Manager will be the primary negotiator in artist contracts and will be integral in the successful day-to-day operations of the institution’s Broadway and off-Broadway programming.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Negotiate and oversee drafting process of artist contracts (Non-union, SDC, USA and standard AEA contracts) for all 2ST productions and events, as well as commission agreements, studio rental agreements and 2ST’s Next Stage Festival author agreements.
• Assist with the drafting and processing of more intricate contracts, including but not limited to: author agreements, star contracts, co-production agreements and license agreements for full-production rentals.
• Maintain successful relationships with all artist representation.
• Manage ASCAP relationship and oversee rights clearances for all recorded musical compositions and IP authorizations for all copyrighted mediums used in 2ST productions.
• Supervise General Management staff, as assigned, and lead the advancement of their professional development initiatives.
• Track all negotiated contractual billing and communicate requirements interdepartmentally.
• Proof all 2ST collateral (e.g. announcements, ads, playbills, annual reports and invitations), and field cross-departmental inquiries for the facilitation of these documents, as well as grant requests.
• Create first drafts of production budgets to be finalized in conjunction with General Manager.
• With GM Assistant, process, approve and distribute weekly fee payments, invoices, royalty reports, and oversee the documented tracking of production expenses to be used for budget projections and reconciliation.
• Approve and submit company payroll and accompanying union Dues, Pension and Health Reports, to be prepared by Company Managers and/or General Management Assistant.
• Serve as a liaison with union representatives; prepare concession requests; manage union reporting and bonding; research and negotiate special requests as needed.
• Draft and maintain performance calendars for all 2ST productions in accordance with union regulations and communicate with artistic, marketing, ticketing and development departments to ensure that all production-adjacent events are incorporated correctly.
• Source and compile required materials in preparation for collective bargaining negations for both LORT and local unions.
• Collaborate with General Management Department on the interpretation and execution of all union obligations.
Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications
• Three to five years of related experience required; institutional non-profit (Broadway/Off-Broadway) theatre and theatrical general management highly desired; experience with LORT organizations a plus
• Outstanding communication and organizational skills and extraordinary attention to detail
• Superior project management skills and keen ability to multi-task across various teams
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• An understanding of theatrical labor unions and collectively bargained agreements - (AEA, SDC, USA, 802); familiarity with local unions (Local One, ATPAM, Locals 751, 764, 798) a plus
• Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate
• A passion for professional development initiatives and creative institutional systems
Work Environment
Time will be spent in an office with quiet to moderate noise level and occasionally in the theatre with often loud and amplified noises. The office environment requires using the computer, phone, and other routine office equipment. Majority of the work will be performed inside at room temperature.
Physical Requirements
Position requires long periods of sitting. While sitting in the office, employee is required to use hands, wrists, and fingers for keyboard and other office equipment. The employee may often use stairs throughout the day and walk throughout the theatres.
