Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Associate Costume Director. The Associate Costume Director works with the Costume Director and costume shop team to ensure a safe, efficient, and inclusive work environment. The Steppenwolf costume shop functions under the shared values of curiosity, communication, mutual respect and excellence.
This position reports to the Costume Shop Director.
Responsibilities:
• Act as Costume Lead on assigned shows, execute designs in collaboration with costume designers and costume team within set budget
• Communicate between the costume shop and other departments including Stage Management, Props, and Wardrobe
• Lead efforts to maintain a safe workspace including safety walk-throughs and evacuation drills
• Maintain costume stock and office areas including purchasing supplies, restocking and organizing
• Update costume shop paperwork including sources, vendors, & training manuals
• Assist in onboarding overhire employees
• Provide back up and support to the Costume Director
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
• Strong time management and organization
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Supervisory and project management experience
• Knowledge of Microsoft office
• Budget management & receipt tracking
• Knowledge of safety equipment and standards in a costume shop
• Ability to work with a variety of artists in high pressure situations
• Experience in theatrical costuming techniques
• Commitment to understanding issues of body diversity and working in a body neutral costume shop
• Ability and commitment to working with diverse groups in terms of gender expression, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigrant status
• The ideal candidate will have at least two years of project management experience in costuming.
Compensation:
Salary range: $52,070- $57,246 with an excellent benefit package for full time employees including Medical, Dental, Vision, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, vacation pay, paid sick time, personal days, Ventra transit benefit program, employee assistance program and 401(k) matching retirement program.
