Associate Artistic Director, Director of Education & Community Engagement
Position Summary:
The Black Rep is seeking an Associate Artistic Director, Director of Education & Community Engagement who will work to enhance pre-existing education programs, including those that focus on school-based and community offerings, as well as develop new programming and manage a roster of Professional Fellows and freelance artists. The AAD/DECE also will collaborate with the Producing Director in choosing and supporting an annual season of mainstage and touring productions.
Reporting to the Founder and Producing Director and serving as a member of TBR’s senior management team the AAD/DECE plays a critical role in advancing community initiatives and will represent TBR at events, at Board meetings, and in partnerships/collaborations.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Touring Show Production Season - Essential Functions: Develop an annual professional production/performance schedule that aligns organizational priorities by programming and producing an annual touring show season in consultation with the Producing Director.
Education and Community Engagement - Essential Functions: Direct and supervise the implementation of the highest quality educational programs and oversee staff conducting related programming.
Programs are divided into three main groups:
Community Engagement programs, which support and drive participation, general attendance and provide access points for a variety of audiences. Many programs are created in partnership with other organizations, making TBR a true connector between the arts and its surrounding neighborhoods and local talent.
Education programs, serving over 30,000 students, parents, and faculty annually (pre-pandemic). Education Programs include classes and workshops for adults and youth (ages 6-18), a Summer Performing Arts Program, a Teen Tech Training Program, Professional Fellowships, and a Regional Touring Company season for school and community audiences.
A re-renewed area of focus, the AAD/DECE will be responsible for the overall design, development, implementation and evaluation of the education program.
In executing those responsibilities, the AAD/DECE is also charged to:
Design, develop, implement, and coordinate assigned programs
Serve as facilitator and presenter for leadership programs and sessions
Coordinate the program planning and logistical execution – adhering to program timelines
Identify and secure content experts as presenters
Have a level of expertise working with various virtual platform to deliver training content
Support Board committees and program-related events
QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years of experience in theatre, theatre education or an arts education related field.
Proven experience in budgeting, strategic planning and analysis to support decision making
Performing Arts and/or Non-profit experience a plus
Salary: $58,000 to $60,000
