Associate Artistic Director - Dallas Theater Center

POSITION SUMMARY: Dallas Theater Center (DTC) seeks applicants for a new Associate Artistic Director position to join our highly collaborative and versatile company of Resident Artists. This new, full-time staff position will work with the Artistic Director and Artistic Producer as well as the other Resident and guest artists (directors, designers, actors, playwright) to craft the artistic programming for this robust and diverse institution. DTC seeks candidates who will work in support of our mission and values and who share our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.



The Associate Artistic Director will report to the Artistic Producer and will direct several productions each season and serve as a full-time member of the Artistic team at Dallas Theater Center (DTC). Duties include: directing plays and musicals; serving as artistic producer of DTC’s Innovation Lab (new work development workshop and special projects); supervising DTC’s core company of full-time resident artists; teaching in DTC’s Public Works programs (education & community engagement); participating on the Producing Team, Season Planning Team, and Artistic Staff; and serving as an artistic advocate and leader in the community.



SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS, AND ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:

● Theater directing skills including work on new plays, classics and musicals

● Broad knowledge of theatrical production processes and directing techniques

● Bilingual/fluent in Spanish a plus

● Ability to work effectively in a co-operative and approachable manner working collaboratively, positively and productively with all DTC staff including production departments, directors, actors, designers, technicians and administrators within the confines of time and budget

● Must demonstrate leadership, and work in a collaborative nature as part of a team

● Must be able to work under the stress of deadlines and adapt to changing priorities

● Must be able to handle a high volume of work and attend to numerous projects concurrently



EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

● Member of Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers (SDC) or professional equivalent

● 4+ years experience working as a professional theater director

● Artistic producing experience a plus

● Teaching and/or community engagement experience



COVID19 REQUIREMENTS:

• Ensure that all of the department’s work is performed in alignment with DTC’s COVID19 Response Protocols

• Be able to provide documentation of full vaccination of a US-government approved COVID19 vaccine regimen for COVID19, at the time of hire.

Salary: $60,000
