Job Description



The Associate Artistic Director reports to—and works directly with—Artistic Director, John Dias as a key player in all artistic and producorial activities of Two River Theater. The Associate Artistic Director oversees the budgets and staff of the Artistic Department and plays a leading role in season planning, line producing, and all related artistic programming by cultivating artistic and industry relationships, participating in humanities and lifelong learning activities, participating in arts engagement activities, participating in donor cultivation events, and representing the theater locally and in the national conversation throughout the field. We seek an individual with a demonstrated background as an artistic producer and with a skillset that ranges across new plays, musicals, and classics.



Successful candidates will have deep artistic insight and a gift for communicating clearly, sensitively and supportively with artists and audiences at all points in the producing process. A talent for clear and lively prose writing is necessary as all members of the artistic team contribute as writers to grants, marketing materials, playbills et al. A strong knowledge of the field—with a wealth of relationships and knowledge of the most exciting directors, playwrights, actors, designers and projects—is also important.



Qualifications:

• A positive attitude, ability to think creatively, and collaborative work style;

• Should exhibit a high degree of organization, attention to details and ability to multitask;

• Must be proficient with computers, especially Word, Outlook and Excel;

• Ability to work on selected weekday and weekend evenings required;

• Residency in New Jersey required.



Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes medical and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, paid vacation, personal time and a 403 (b) retirement plan.



About Two River Theater

Two River Theater produces a theatrical season that includes American and world classics, new plays and musicals, programs for young people, and festivals of new work. Each year, we also offer 40+ events that reflect our diverse community of Red Bank, New Jersey. Staying true to our founding principles, we bring a fresh eye to American and world classics, and we have commissioned and premiered original projects including Be More Chill by Tony Award nominee Joe Iconis and Joe Tracz (the theater’s first Broadway production) and Hurricane Diane by Playwright-in-Residence Madeleine George (which won an Obie Award for its Off-Broadway run). Each season, we host numerous artist residencies, workshops and readings. We produce an annual Cabaret of New Songs for the Musical Theater in association with NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing program and Crossing Borders, an annual festival of new work celebrating Latinx artists and audiences.



Two River Theater owns and operates a main theater facility of 40,000 total square feet which was built in 2005. The main facility includes the 349 seat Rechnitz Theater and the Marion Huber black box theater with a flexible capacity of up to 110 seats. The theater recently completed construction on the Center for New Work, Education & Design. The Center, connected to the main theater facility, is a 36,000 square foot support facility consisting of production shops, office space, 2 rehearsal studios and storage.

Two River Theater is led by Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, and was founded in 1994 by Joan and Robert Rechnitz. Located on the Jersey Shore, just 50 miles from Midtown Manhattan, we are easily accessible by car, train, or bus, with great restaurants, shopping and hotels within walking distance of the theater.
