SUMMARY
The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) reports directly to the Technical Director (TD) and assists with oversight of all technical production activities in support of the mission of The Atlanta Opera. The ATD actively assists with management and implementation of technical operations and provides administrative support for the Technical Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist and advise on all technical production needs for all productions including analysis of incoming rentals, and analysis of proposed new build projects/productions.
• Assist with the creation and implementation of logistical plans for incoming rental productions.
• Coordinate and supervise under the direction of the Technical Director - all stage crew departments in the theatre, warehouse, and shop, paying strict attention to IATSE rules and practices.
• Assist with show planning, scheduling, installation, and running.
• Work closely with the Technical Director overseeing the building, maintenance, and repair of all scenic assets, constructed props, and all logistical equipment (i.e., road-boxes), including procurement of all relevant construction materials.
• Provide support on compliance with laws and regulations regarding all licensing, permits, certificates, and relevant documentation regarding the technical and production aspects of performances.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of near and long-term technical budgets, individual project budgets, and touring budgets.
• Work closely with all departments regarding the technical support of other departments’ functions as required.
• Assist with tracking stage crew hours.
• Establish and maintain an asset rental program.
• Implement as directed all professional/production stage, warehouse, and shop labor contracts.
• Assist with all production equipment logistics and transportation logistics.
• Produce drafting and appropriate technical paperwork including all technical drawings such as plans, sections, elevations, rigging points, and line schedules for all Atlanta Opera engagements.
• Research competitive pricing for all technical operations purchases and rentals including shipping and support personnel.
• Advise and assist with maintaining expense budgets within boundaries of project budgets.
• Prepare support documentation for reconciliation of expenditures.
• Provide support on all Safety matters including compliance with all appropriate federal, state, and local safety and health practices.
• Other duties, as assigned.
COMPETENCIES
• Excellent written and oral communication and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently.
• Excellent computer skills and aptitude, especially in CAD and using Microsoft Office Suite as well as the ability to quickly learn new software programs.
• Knowledge or strong interest in opera preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively within production team and with multiple departments.
• Ability to drive a 26’ box truck.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or related field preferred.
• At least three years’ work experience in theatrical production with a demonstrated track record of increased responsibility.
• Ability to communicate using a phone and headset.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Have valid driver’s license.
Salary: $40,000 - $50,000
