Northern Stage in White River Junction, VT seeks an experienced Assistant Props Master for its 2021-2022 season. Northern Stage is a LORT D 240 seat regional theater, producing a 6-show mainstage season between the months of August and May, plus educational programs, a New Works Festival, and 4-6 other events year-round. The Assistant Props Master works closely with the Props Master and scenic designers in the acquisition and construction of all hand props, furniture, and set dressing.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist the props master in the build, load-in, and strike of all props for each production
Create prototypes, sketches, samples, and other proofs of concept as needed.
Assist in the maintenance of properties stock and organization of rentals and loans to outside entities.
Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the prop shop and storage spaces.
Provide support for events outside the mainstage and education seasons.
Act as part of a run crew as needed.
Support other production departments as needed, and promote a safe and healthy work/learning environment alongside other staff and apprentices.
Qualifications:
Minimum 1-year experience in theatrical props construction.
Ability to interpret designer and construction drawings, sketches, and paint elevations.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to approach challenges collaboratively.
Skill in various technical and artistic disciplines, with basic knowledge of history as it pertains to props.
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail, maintaining a positive attitude in fast-paced and rapid-changing environments.
Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others.
Proficiency with hand and power tools.
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a cargo van and 16’ box truck.
Ability to comfortably work at heights in a “genie” style lift and on a tension-mesh grid.
Ability to safely lift 75 lbs.
Compensation: $15/h
Housing: Neighboring housing available for rent from Northern Stage.
Contract Dates: 4/19/21-4/17/22 with a five-week off-contract period in the fall from Sept 19 through October 24th.
Job Type: Full Time. The standard workdays are Monday – Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm, but expect to work some nights and weekends as the schedule requires.
