Signature Theatre, one of New York's leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, INSTITUTIONAL GIVING for The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street.



About Signature

Founded in 1991, Signature Theatre celebrates playwrights and gives them an artistic home, producing six to eight productions annually. In 2005 Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all of its productions. In 2012, Signature opened The Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Assistant Director, Institutional Giving is a key position in Signature’s Development Department. This position oversees Signature’s fundraising efforts from corporate, foundation and government sources.



Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of institutional fundraising strategy

• Oversee a $4MM portfolio of high-profile foundation, government, and corporate funders

• Alongside Executive leadership and the Director of Development, work with representatives from corporations, foundations, and the government, who are in a position to approve grants and donations to Signature Theatre

• Cultivate and solicit funding through compelling, comprehensive sponsorship or grant proposals and presentations

• Oversee all Institutional partner contracts, ensure organizational compliance, and complete all required reporting deadlines

• Develop and refine language for grant proposals and reports for Institutional funders, including annual boilerplate as well as project-specific narratives

• Supervise Institutional Giving & Board Coordinator

• Liaise Signature’s Artistic, Education, Finance, and Marketing departments in the creation of integrated materials and maintenance of up-to-date language and financial information

• Identify and research prospective institutional donors and develop new approaches to raising institutional support, including campaign donations

• Oversee the management of grants calendar for Corporate, Foundation and Government grants

• Track progress of sponsored and grant-funded programs with the support of the Institutional Giving & Board Coordinator

• Support maintenance of institutional donor profiles in Tessitura

• Strategize cultivation events and opportunities for Institutional funder stewardship



Desired Experience

• 3+ years of grant writing experience, preferably at a nonprofit arts institution

• Proven track record of institutional fundraising success, encompassing corporate sponsorship, foundation, and government relations

• Excellent writing and research skills

• Able to understand and work with budgets

• Highly motivated, organized, detail- and deadline-oriented, and able to balance many competing deadlines

• Collaborative and able to establish effective working relationships with staff

• Computer skills, especially Microsoft Office Suite

• Preference for candidates with a knowledge of and passion for theatre

• Preference for candidates who have demonstrable experience advocating for equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility

2. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

3. Strong verbal and written communication skills

4. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate



Compensation

This is a full-time salaried exempt position with an annual salary of $65,000-$70,000.
