The Full Time Accounting Manager is a key player within Steppenwolf’s Finance team. The Accounting Manager supports the business office through managing the accounts and pledge receivables function, leading the month-end close process, including bank and investment account reconciliation, and reinforcing account analysis and outside reporting needs. The position requires a high level of communication and coordination with constituents as well as the ability to conduct research into accounting policies and standards as needed. This position reports to the Director of Finance.
Responsibilities
• Manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of business results
• Collaborates closely with the fundraising and box office teams to make sure all revenue and pledges receivable are properly recorded, according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP) requirements, including the periodic analysis of collectibility of pledges
• Reconciles revenue between the general ledger and CRM systems
• Prepares and reviews journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules
• Ensures that the books are closed, and all transactions are accurately captured on a monthly basis
• Assists the Finance team with financial statement audit prep, including coordinating, preparing, and maintaining schedules for the annual financial statement audit and other regulatory reporting requirements
• Conducts periodic reporting, such as for grant applications, debt covenant reporting, and other ad hoc reports with support from the Finance team
• Develops, documents, and communicates internal controls, ensuring the safeguarding of the company’s assets
• Supports the Finance team by searching for and developing best-practice solutions to setting the overall accounting policies and procedures for the organization
• Ensures that policies and procedures under Steppenwolf’s accounting and internal control systems are followed
• Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• 3-5 years of accounting experience required, preferably in a non-profit organization
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is strongly preferred; Equivalent work experience in an accounting role with knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting will be considered
• Ability to apply accounting systems (NetSuite preferred) and navigate CRM systems (Tessitura, Toast, Shopify)
• Ability to work in a multi-task environment with deadlines and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
• Ability to assess issues and formulate a response using analytical and problem solving skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft apps, especially Excel and Outlook
• Strong communication skills and high-level attention to detail
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time and lift 20 pounds
Compensation:
Salary range: $59,885 to $65,874 with excellent benefit package for full time employees, including medical, dental, vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, vacation pay, paid sick time, personal days, Ventra transit benefit program, employee assistance program and 401(k) matching retirement program.
