The American Shakespeare Center (Staunton, VA) is seeking COSTUME SHOP MANAGER for our 2023 Artistic Year and/or for Future Consideration.
Our 2023 Spring Season will feature a rep company of 7 performing Shakespeare's AS YOU LIKE IT and Sarah Ruhl's EURYDICE.
Our Summer Season will feature a 13 actor rep performing Shakespeare's HAMLET, MEASURE FOR MEASURE and BOOK OF WILL by Lauren Gunderson.
The Fall Season will include an extended run of Shakespeare's HAMLET, as well as Renaissance-Style productions of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW and CORIOLANUS
The ASC was formed in 1988 in Central Virginia, and in 2001 the Blackfriars Playhouse was built - the world's only recreation of Shakespeare's indoor theatre.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Supervise ASC costume shop employees and show designers. Maintain a clean and comfortable shop, fitting room, and additional work spaces as used.
Assist show designers with costume construction and alterations.
Assist technical director/properties master with soft-goods construction (curtains, banners, etc.).
Manage build schedules.
Attend production meetings and take notes for the costume team.
Schedule and lead costume team meetings.
Oversee hiring of costume shop employees and interns, working with the Production Manager.
Schedule fittings and act as liaison with stage managers. Take notes for designers during fittings, if needed.
Monitor and maintain costume stock.
Determine best use of costume stock.
Maintain costume shop equipment and supplies.
Develop a list of strategic investment priorities, upgrades, and maintenance for the costume shop.
Oversee costume budget. Ensure all expenses are within the approved costume budget.
Manage costume staff credit cards. Provide credit card expense reports as required by ASC Finance/Business Manager.
When applicable, train volunteers to provide assistance to the ASC costume shop.
Reports to Production Manager.
SKILLS
Demonstrated interest and proficiency in costume construction, alteration, and clothing care techniques.
Effective organizational, communication, and time-management abilities.
Ability to manage multiple, overlapping productions, projects, and personnel.
Computer and internet proficiency.
$36,000 / year Salary
