The 2017/2018 Season marks the final season for MIYATA Keiko, the Artistic Director of Drama at the New National Theatre, Tokyo. The Season opens with the French masterpiece "La Guerre de Troie n'aura pas lieu (The Trojan War Will Not Take Place)". Director KURIYAMA Tamiya will be tackling this immortal work by Jean GIRAUDOUX, a name that continues to shine in world theatre history, for the first time.
GIRAUDOUX, who passed away in 1944, worked not only as a novelist and playwright, but also played an active role as a high-ranking official in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and even served as the president of the intelligence division. In 1935, as Nazi Germany was coming to power, he penned "La Guerre de Troie n'aura pas lieu (The Trojan War Will Not Take Place)", revealing the foolishness of humankind in its rush to war, and hoping for peace. This is a masterpiece which brilliantly showcases both GIRAUDOUX's level-headedness as a diplomat and imaginativeness as a poet, and continues to this day to be performed the world over.
