The New National Theatre, Tokyo's version of "The Sleeping Beauty" returns to the stage this season. It was with this production that OHARA Noriko launched her first season as Artistic Director of Ballet in 2014. When first performed in November 2014, it was acclaimed for its "simplicity and yet being luxurious": the result of Wayne EAGLING's choreography that maintained a classicism tinged with modernity, Toer van SCHAYK's sophisticated, colourful costumes that revealed his career as a dancer, and KAWAGUCHI Naoji's elegant and extravagant scenery. Our principal dancers each appear in solo performances, conveying a real depth of talent of the National Ballet of Japan. This is one of TCHAIKOVSKY's top three ballets, loved around world; we trust you will enjoy to the full the synthesis of art that is ballet.
