  3. Swan Lake

Out of the classical ballet repertoire, this work is unquestionably an audience favourite. The NNTT's Swan Lake was revised in 2006 by the former Artistic Director, MAKI Asami. It maintains its elegance, to which is brought the memorable staging of the English artist, Peter CAZALET, with its modernity, sophistication and sense of colour. Characteristic of MAKI's Swan Lake is the origins of the story being clearly outlined in the prologue, the focus on storytelling, the russkaya dance, so often omitted, being danced by a lead dancer, the quick dance steps, and number of technically challenging sections. There is always something new to discover in this piece, even after watching it many times. The true worth of a ballet company becomes apparent in the techniques of the main dancers and their ability to bring depth to their portrayals, as well as in the skills of the corps de ballet. We invite you to see the NBJ of today.
