Jesus Christ Superstar comes to Japan with the Gekidan Shiki, one of Japan's best known theater troupes.

The rock opera was first adapted in 1973 from the original by the troupe's founder Keita Asari. The Gekidan Shiki's 'Japonesque Version' actually sticks close to the conventional version of the show.

However, complete with kabuki makeup, tattoos, and white jeans, Reuters report states that this version also takes a trip into the surreal.
