The Guests have been invited to the filming of a special quiz show. Kogoro Mori, Heiji Hattori, Conan, Ran, Kazuha and Sonoko have also arrived. Just as the start of filming, an explosion is suddenly heard. The chilling voice announces that several bombs have been planted in the studios. The bombs will go off unless the upcoming quiz questions are answered correctly. Displayed on the monitor is footage of Sonoko with a bomb strapped around her. The time limit is 60 minutes. Can guests rescue Sonoko and avert the crisis!?
Upon entering the venue, you find yourself at “Nichiuri TV” Osaka Studio. The “TV crew" who appears on stage on time, explains how to use the tablets distributed to guests. Leaving the stage, the familiar footage from the opening of the Detective Conan movie plays, featuring "My name's Shinichi Kudo, high school detective…” Following this, characters such as Heiji Hattori, Kogoro Mori, Ran, and Kazuha, who are also participating in the recording, appear. The excitement of "I've entered Conan's world!" resonates. It's enjoyable to interact with the characters who occasionally talk to us, and peek at our tablets There’s also Conan wandering around the venue like usual.
From a peaceful moment, the atmosphere abruptly changes as an explosion occurs within the facility. There, the captive figure of Sonoko is present, and to rescue her, the only option is to solve the quiz, says the bomber. Overwhelmed by the immersive experience, I can't help but spontaneously think, "I have to save Sonoko!” Prompted by Heiji's words, “I’m counting on you!”, each guest moves to the designated rooms.
In the room we reach, the character who appeared in the opening show was there. With his help and utilizing the clues in the room, participants solve quizzes presented on the tablet. Since the answers are in English and numbers, there is no language barrier. With the cooperation of Conan and others, we move through the four-story building, tackling quizzes one after another. There are rooms related to “Yoko Okino" and "Kamen Yaiba" from the works, allowing participants to immerse themselves in Conan's world.
When the time limit is reached, everyone gathers in one studio. Heiji, Ran, and Conan also join, and as they unravel the full story of the incident, the quiz answers are checked. Cheers like "Oh..." or “Make sense!" rise from the audience. As the identity of the bomber is revealed, there are the familiar detective show and abundant recreations of iconic lines from the anime which are irresistible to fans of the original work. There are also many action scenes, and with suspenseful and thrilling developments that even captivate adults, it can be thoroughly enjoyed as a stand alone show. Towards the end, Kid the phantom thief, who also appears in the movie "The Million Dollar Pentagram," makes entry, further heightening the climax.
In the finale, as a special greeting, characters circulate through the audience for a photo session. This is a delightful moment where you can capture your favorite characters on your smartphone and reminisce about the memories.
Ran and Sonoko’s voices and the way they speak, the mannerisms of Heiji grabbing his cap, and Kogoro sticking out his tongue and laughing—all of these aspects faithfully leap out of the anime. Only at Universal Studios Japan can you experience the world of Conan live on such a grand scale. In its 8th year since 2017, the "Detective Conan: The Escape" continues to captivate, with the producer of the Detective Conan movies, Mr. Shuho Kondo, highly praising it as "the most entertaining ever." The finely tuned quiz difficulty offers a satisfying blend of challenge and enjoyable frustration, tempting participants to try again. It's a must-try for Conan fans and puzzle enthusiasts alike.
