Saxophonist Louis Jordan created a new slant on jazz in the 1940's that paved the way for rock and roll in the 1950s. Nominated for a 1992 Best Musical Tony® Award and winner of the 1991 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, Five Guys Named Moe brings Jordan's music to life through the eyes of main character, Nomax. Nomax, whose girlfriend has left him and who is without money, finds Big Moe, Four-Eyed Moe, Eat Moe, No Moe, and Little Moe emerging from his radio to comfort him. The result as two hours of lively, funky music that the LA Times called, "one of the more entertaining experiences available to humanity." Five Guys Named Moe opens April 4, 2018 at the Alhambra Theatre & Dining and runs through May 6.
An exuberant tribute to the music of rhythm and blues pioneer and alto saxophonist, Louis Jordan, Five Guys Named Moe is an international sensation. Initially produced in London's West End by the legendary Cameron Mackintosh, this exhilarating, all-embracing theatrical experience moved to Broadway in 1992 and was nominated for two Tony Awards.
Five Guys Named Moe is about Nomax - he's broke, his lovely Lorraine left him and he's listening to the radio at 5:00 in the morning. Out of the radio, five guys named Moe appear. Set to Jordan's iconic rhythm and blues/jazz score, the Moes encourage Nomax to turn his life around and tell Lorraine that he loves her. The recognizable and enticing score appeals to a variety of audiences, and the uproarious audience participation will have spectators leaping out of their seats to join the celebration.
Five Guys Named Moe runs April 4, 2018 through May 8, 2018. Alhambra tickets start at just $38 and include a three-course meal that changes for each show, a Broadway-style performance and complimentary parking. Tickets can be purchases on line at www.alhambrajax.com or by calling 904.641.1212.
