The FSU Student Theatre Association presents the world premier of
Alexander Sage Oyen's haunting original musical A Night Like This directed by FSU senior and FSU STA artistic director Blayze Teicher. This production will run from November 30 - December 2 in the Augusta Conradi
Studio Theatre.
The FSU Student Theatre Association (FSU STA) is a registered student organization that provides resources and educational support to students wanting to put on theatrical productions in Tallahassee. FSU STA possesses a board of undergraduate, graduate, and PhD representatives, as well as supportive faculty and staff, who are there to help students develop their projects.
A Night Like This had its first staged reading in Orlando during the summer of 2011. Since then, composer/lyricist,
Alexander Sage Oyen, and book writer, Sean Peter Drohan, have shaped this musical into a final draft for production purposes. Oyen asked director/producer, Blayze Teicher, to premiere the show at FSU during fall 2012.
Ryan, played by Tanner Lane, is a fallen soldier who has left his two childhood friends to deal with the unresolved issues amongst them. His young widow Katie, played by
Katie Bottomley, has called for a pre-funeral soiree as an act of denial the midnight before the ceremony. There is just one problem. Ryan's best friend Dan, played by Matthew Janisse, is the only one who shows up. When Katie leaves Dan alone in the cemetery, his night gets a little odd. Back from the dead, Ryan appears to address their haunting past.
"It has been such an honor to take on this bold, new work!" director and producer of A Night Like This Blayze Teicher remarked. "My team and I are thrilled to have this opportunity and to expose our audiences to this up-and-coming composer."
Alexander Sage Oyen, composer/lyricist for A Night Like This is an alumnus of University of Minnesota/ Guthrie BFA Actor Training Program. His musical, Dachau (music and lyrics w/ Christopher Metz), was workshopped at UCF and his concert/song cycle, Context (now titled "Rebel Verses"), premiered in NYC. He also has written two original book-musicals. One of them, Sidekicks, was presented at New York Music Theatre Festival this past summer.
With a talented cast of three FSU music theatre majors, a seasoned orchestra, and the designs of some of the School of Theatre's most promising young designers, this musical production will be a truly unique event for the Tallahassee community.
Show Times: November 30 at 8PM; December 1 at 8PM; and December 2 at 2PM and 8PM.
