Theatre Jacksonville celebrates Stephen Sondheim's birthday with two performances of the musical revue Side by Side by Sondheim March 22 at 2pm and 8pm as its annual fundraiser.
Directed by Jean Tait, this tribute production to composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim features Pamela Myers (Company, Into the Woods), Harvey Evans (Follies, Anyone Can Whistle) Michael Iannucci (Fiddler on the Roof), Theatre Jacksonville artistic director Sarah Boone, and Shinnerrie Jackson. Geoffrey King will be narrating, and 2014 YoungArts Foundation finalist Katie Sacks will make a cameo appearance.
Musical Direction is by Joey Chancey (Annie) and Aaron Jodoin plays second piano.
This dazzling array of some of Sondheim's best known songs features numbers from landmark shows that revolutionized the musical theatre with their masterful craft and astounding creativity: Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Anyone Can Whistle and Pacific Overtures, not to mention the classics written with musical theatre giants Leonard Bernstein, Jule Styne and Richard Rodgers: West Side Story, Gypsy, and Do I Hear A Waltz? Also included are delectable rarities from the television musical Evening Primrose, the film The Seven Percent Solution and the hit revue The Mad Show.
Tickets are priced $35 for either performance. Special $55 VIP tickets are also available for the 8 PM performance only which includes a post-show meet and greet party with the cast on the main stage.
