Cirque Dreams Illumination and The Artist Series have teamed up to make 4 aspiring local performers' dreams come true. On Saturday, January 29th, contestants auditioned to "Run Away with Cirque Dreams" during an open casting call at the Avenues Mall. The judges were impressed by the diversity and talent at the audition and have selected an extraordinary team of 4 local friends to appear in Cirque Dreams Illumination when it performs at Times Union Center's Moran Theater February 15-20, 2011. The winners will showcase their percussion team named "RAD" which is comprised of Jacksonville residents Michael Patterson, Andrew Nixon, Matthew Remson and Reggie Bailey.
Cirque Dreams Illumination will mark the group's theatrical debut in a highly entertaining Broadway-style production. They will rehearse and appear in the Thursday, February 17 evening performance alongside the Cirque Dreams ensemble of some of the best athletes, musicians, street performers and artists in the world. Additionally, they will each receive 6 complimentary tickets to the show to share the experience with their family and friends.
Neil Goldberg, Broadway producer and Cirque Dreams creator, stated "These 4 talented young men are about to experience a professional showbiz opportunity that compliments their unique percussive urban skills. Their appearance in Cirque Dreams Illumination will captivate audiences in Jacksonville as they did our creative team when auditioning at Avenues Mall. Their urban style of percussion will accompany and bring to life an amazing acrobatic presentation that merges entertainment genres together as Cirque Dreams is renowned for. It's just passing the dream forward."
The 4 friends come from diverse backgrounds but hold in common a passion for music and percussion. The group first met as drummers for the University of North Florida and have performed regularly for the past 8 years on the Jacksonville Jaguar drumline. Andrew Nixon, medical supply technician and 2000 graduate of Edison College in Southwest Florida, read about the casting call online the morning of the event and encouraged his three friends to join him for the audition that day. Matthew Remson works full-time as a sales & loan associate and 2006 graduate of Florida State University. Reggie Bailey is a full time student working on his business degree at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Michael Patterson graduated University of North Florida in 2001 and is currently an underwriter at Bank of America.
Cirque Dreams Illumination will ignite an entertainment spectacle onstage at the Times Union Center's Moran Theatre February 15 - 20. Cirque Dreams, an American theatrical Production Company, brings its critically acclaimed entertainment brand to Jacksonville for 8 illuminating performances. Created and directed by Neil Goldberg, creator of the groundbreaking hit Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy, Cirque Dreams Illumination is "as much rock concert as visual spectacle with enough style to make the cover of Vogue," says the Naples Daily News and "full of street-smart stunts and acrobatic invention" raves The Columbus Dispatch. With "energetic music, stunning costumes and astounding effects" proclaimed by The Times News, Cirque Dreams Illumination is "dazzling...a reason to stand up and cheer" according to The New York Daily News. "Each time you think you've seen it all, well, you haven't" hails the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. "If you want lively and highly skilled entertainment that multiple generations will surely enjoy, prepare for Illumination" says the Chicago Tribune. Tickets are on sale now!
