For the second year in a row, the Alhambra Theatre & Dining invited its patrons and fans to select its annual summer show. In a landslide vote via the website, Facebook and on ballots distributed on site prior to each show during the month of February, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat" beat out "Annie" and "Seussical the Musical."

More than 5,000 votes were cast during the balloting process, almost twice as many "It's a wonderful selection and a great show," said Alhambra Managing Partner, Craig Smith. "It's been a long time since the Alhambra has done this show, and with our new technology we'll be able to make even better than folks remember it. It will be a dazzling show."

Written by Andrew Lloyd Weber with Lyrics by Tim Rice, this Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father's favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

The show opened in London's West End in 1973 and then on Broadway in 1982. It has enjoyed several revivals, including a current UK tour since 2010.
