CROSS ROADS: Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings & Norton S. Baskin, an original work by playwright/director Deborah Dickey, brings to life a crucial period in the career and private life of the acclaimed author of The Yearling and Cross Creek. In a time before e-mail and social media, the letters between the author and second husband Norton Baskin reveal a deepening friendship and affection, as she comes to rely more and more on the humor and irresistible charm of the gentleman from Alabama.
A Classic Theatre celebrates these two singular personalities in an unconventional love story with six performances of Cross Roads at the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center, located at 102 ML King Ave., on March 13-15 and 20-22 with evening performances at 7:30 pm and matinees at 2:00 pm on March 15 and March 22. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased on-line at www.aclassictheatre.org/tickets. For reservations please call 904-501-5093.
The cast features two extraordinary performances by Nancy Grote as Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Ashley Carter as Norton Baskin revealing a relationship threatened by a clash of personalities and a long separation during WW II. What emerges is a surprisingly modern marriage between the world-renowned author and an hotelier with his own gift for storytelling. Marjorie's cottage at Crescent Beach, her farm at Cross Creek, and St. Augustine itself provide the backdrop for the play.
Reserve your seats NOW for this funny, poignant and thought-provoking show! Marjorie and Norton come alive with these amazing actors, an unforgettable dramatic adaptation by Deborah B. Dickey." --Florence Turcotte, Curator, UF Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Archive.
