Songs for My Father, Featuring The Chip Herrington Jazz 5
Chip Herrington’s greatest inspiration is father, Ronnie Herrington. Well known in Mississippi, Ronnie was the Band Director at Columbia High School for over 30 years and is a member of the Mississippi Bandmasters Hall of Fame. At age 88, Chip’s father continues to be a talented trombonist and lover of jazz.
As a young boy, Chip listened avidly to jazz on his Magnavox Hi-Fi record player. His dad would say, “Hey, pay attention, this is Miles Davis,” or ... “This is Mose Allison; he’s from Mississippi.”
You will hear tunes like Chet Baker’s “My Funny Valentine,” Oliver Nelson’s “Stolen Moments,” Herbie Hancock’s “Driftin’,” and many more jazz favorites! According to Chip, “All of these songs are a part of me because of my father, which is why I am dedicating this show to him.”
