A Folktale, set in Chicago during the Depression, Steal Away is a farce telling the story of five upstanding church ladies who raise funds to send young Black women to college by holding bake sales and the like. Their latest beneficiary, Tracyada, has more ambitious ideas. She wants them all to rob a bank! Of course, the ladies are reluctant to do anything that drastic; but events have them joining in Tracyada's scheme. Will they get away with it? Or will the ladies end up caught? Their antics and adventures will have you laughing with joy and smiling the entire show.
"I am forever grateful to be able to take advantage of this phenomenal opportunity and direct this production of Steal Away" said director Xerron Mingo. "Steal Away is a script I've been in love with for over 10 years. Although the scripts lends itself towards a comedy, it still shines a spotlight on the educational financing system, specifically for college students. And it is totally relevant today since you still have to jump hurdles for financial support with education in America."
The cast features Marquita Levy as Tracyada Kyzer, Kenya Jefferson as Stella Margaret Kyzer, Alisa Price as Sudy Atkinson, Wendie Sheppard as Renita "Redd" Ruth, Jasmine Rivera as Jade Long and Brianna Hill as Bluiah "Blu" Daniels.
