BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theatre site on the Internet, is thrilled to announce a new feature to its comprehensive regional coverage - the Featured Regional Dance Company of the Week! Much like we do with our featured Regional Theaters, each week, we will bring you a story on a regional dance company in one of our coverage cities.

This week's featured Regional Dance Company is the Tupelo Ballet in Tupelo, Mississippi!

Founded in 1982, The Tupelo Ballet is a non-profit, youth oriented dance program designed to bring classical ballet performances to audiences of all ages.

The Tupelo Ballet Company has approximately 50 of the most talented young dancers from North Mississippi who along with professional dancers from across the nation add to Tupelo’s rich cultural assests through the art of dance. Since the first season, the ballet has presented over thirty productions of The Nutcracker, as well as the full length balletsSleeping Beauty, Cinderella, A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream, Coppelia, Giselle and Snow White. The ballet has also performed the short ballets La Fille Mal Gardee, Les Sylphideand Pas De Quatre. Each year The Tupelo Ballet works diligently to bring magnificent productions to Tupelo and has thousands of children attend free school performances. The ballet also regularly supports the Gum Tree Festival by producing shows for the youth stage.

The Tupelo Academy of Dance Arts was founded in 1976 under the direction of the present owner, Sharon Long. Sharon, a Tupelo native, is dedicated to the art of teaching dance and shares her knowledge with her students. The studio building houses three large studios with sprung floors. The TADA staff works tirelessly to offer professional training to all students and at the same time offers a nurturing environment where memories can be made.

Upcoming productions include the Tupelo Ballet’s 30th production of THE NUTCRACKER on December 1, 2012, at the THS Performing Arts Center. CINDERELLA will be presented at the Tupelo Civic Auditorium in March, 2013.
