New Stage was granted the rare - once in a lifetime - opportunity to produce the Southeastern Premiere of the new adaptation of Tennessee Williams' screenplay Baby Doll. Adapted by Pierre Laville and Emily Mann from the film of the same name, Baby Doll is based on Tennessee Williams' one-act play 27 Wagons Full of Cotton. Mississippi Delta, early 1950s, the summers are hot, but the livin' isn't so easy. Archie Lee has been married for some time to a seductive young woman/child, called only by the endearment of Baby Doll. By agreement with the girl's now-dead father, the marriage can only be consummated on her 20th birthday, now just days away. Things get steamy and complicated when the manager of a successful nearby plantation swaggers in and sets his eyes on Baby Doll. Recommended for ages 16 and older for mature language and situations.

"Baby Doll is a late addition to the current season and New Stage is proud to accept this amazing opportunity," says New Stage artistic director Francine Reynolds. "Baby Doll has only been produced by three other American theatres and the licensing at this time is very limited. We did not want to pass up this chance to bring a new adaptation to our audiences. Branded as a dark comedy as well as a drama, there is much humor and sensuality in the play. The programming of Baby Doll balances out our 52nd season of great storytelling in an exceptional way. Audiences won't want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of this daring and sensuous Southeastern Premiere."

The ensemble cast includes Betsy Helmer (New York, NY) as Baby Doll Meighan, Brian Landis Folkins (Denver, CO) as Archie Lee Meighan, Ouida White Berger (West Point, MS) as Aunt Rose Comfort, and BILLY FINN (Rye, NY) as Silva Vacarro. Baby Doll is directed by Rus Blackwell. Helmer, Berger, and Finn appear through the courtesy of the Actors' Equity Association.

Baby Doll performances are October 24 - November 5, 2017. Ticket prices are $30.00 with discounts available for students, senior citizens and groups. Tickets can be purchased at the box office, charged by phone by calling the theatre at (601) 948-3531 or ordered online at www.newstagetheatre.com.
