New Stage Theatre announces its Broadway Junior Summer Camp performances of Aladdin Jr. The New Stage Theatre Arts in Education department strives to bring professional, progressive acting instruction to youth throughout Mississippi with its summer camps, yearlong acting classes and touring workshops.
Produced by New Stage's Broadway Junior Summer Camp Intensive, Aladdin Jr. is based on the 1992 Academy-Award-winning film and the 2014 hit Broadway show about the "diamond in the rough" street rat who learns that his true worth lies deep within. Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. This new adaptation of the beloved story will open up "a whole new world" for audiences! Performances will be on July 12-14 at 7 p.m. and July 15 at 2 p.m.
The Broadway Junior Summer Camp Intensive serves as an introduction to acting, singing and dance for ages 11-17. The students have four weeks of theatre instruction taught by seasoned theatre veterans. Camp participants also receive instruction in acting, improvisation, stage movement, musical theatre, dance, voice and diction, and auditioning. Students are introduced to all the elements of theatre production in daily classes. The culmination of the camp is a fully-produced Broadway Junior musical presented for four performances on New Stage's main stage.
The summer camp is made possible through generous funding by the Field Co-Operative Association, Inc. and The Walker Foundation.
