Gino Negri, humorist and composer from Milan, died in 1991. He wrote Il diario dell'assassinata finding the inspiration in the life of Carlo Gesualdo, Principe di Venosa, one of the leading Italian madrigalists. Famous for his innovative contribution to music language, the nobleman was also sadly known as a killer, after having murdered his first wife Maria d'Avalos and her lover Fabrizio Carafa. The suffering of the woman is the main theme of this diary, which was put on stage for the first time in 1978 at the Piccola Scala, with Milva playing the leading role. At San Carlo the work will instead be performed in the inedited form of a concert with the jazz singer Maria Pia De Vito as lead.
