Nitza Shaul invites children on a journey into the roots of Norwegian folktales and Scandinavian stories, in the show "Snow, Dwarfs and White Nights" which will be performed as part of the Israeli Opera's "Magical Sounds" series.
The upcoming show will center on the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg and his fascinating childhood stories which affected his creation.
Throughout the show the children will meet magnificent characters from the Norwegian mythology: trolls, elves, witches, snow queens and fairies and will go on a journey into Scandinavia's snow forests and Norway's fiords.
Edvard Grieg was a dreamy child who didn't like going to school and always searched for excuses to be sent back home where he could learn piano with his mother and play music, the love of his life, but when he brought his compositions to school everybody made fun of him. His parents supported him and sent him to study music in Germany. When he returned back home he became a very important and moving composer and was the first composer to describe trolls in his music, as he did in the magical composition he composed for Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt.
The "Magical Sounds" series, hosted and arranged by Nitza Shaul, is the only series in Israel to present childhood stories of the greatest classical composers in full productions that include singing, dancing, live performances and live music composed by these great composers.
The show will include parts from the compositions: "Peer Gynt", "Norwegian Dances", "Holberg Suite" and more.
Performed by a pianist, string quartet and dancers from "Sabotage" dance group.
Props and special costumes by Diana Bass.
The shows are suitable for ages 4 and above, and are held in the Opera House Studio. Children are seated on carpets next to the stage, adults around them on chairs. All ages require tickets.
