Israel's National Theatre Habima announced the production of a new musical based on the songs of Aris San, the Greek singer who had enjoyed great commercial success in Israel in the 1960's.

The musical follows San's life and focuses on his love story with Israeli singer Aliza Azikri. Aris San emigrated to Israel at the age of 17, and went on to become one of Israel's most successful performers and celebrities.  He was murdered by American mobsters, in an affair which caused great uproar in the gossip columns.

"Sigal" is written by Israeli playwright Shlomo Moshkowitz, and directed by Tzedi Tzorfati, the acclaimed director, who has recently gained personal fame as a judge in "A star is born" (Israel's Major TV talent show).

"Sigal" has been premiered as a student production in Yoram Lewinstein School of Acting (also helmd by Tzorfati), and following its success, Habima decided to house the show as part of its repertory, and keep the original production's two young stars. Thus, "Sigal" marks the commercial debut of Erez Regev as Aris San, and Hadar Ratzon as Sigal. Also Starring are Guy Zuaretz, Rotem Abuhav, Vered Feldman, Shlomi Kuriat, Meni Florentine and Amir Hillel.

"Sigal" is due to open in Habima's Beit Ha'hayal Venue, on February 24th.
