Singer and TV personality Margalit Tsan'ani, commonly known in Israel as Margol, is being detained by the police. The famous singer, whose career had been regenerated in recent years, when she became judge in Israeli talent show "A Star is Born", is suspected of conspiring with several organized crime leaders in order to extort her manager, who allegedly owed her money.

News of Margol's arrest and questioning have come as a complete surprise to Israeli public and fans. The singer, although known for speaking freely and often bluntly, has no past criminal record.

After an extensive day of interrogation at the Israeli Police's economic crime unit, Judge Shirly Dekel-Naveh has ordered that the singer's detention be prolonged by additional nine days, stating that "Considering the investigation material there is reasonable suspicion that the suspect has something to do with the suspicions .... I cannot release her because there is fear of an obstruction of the investigation". This extended period later diminished to only six days.

Margol has recently been involved in another scandal, related to the on-going protest movement in Israel, which demands the government to decrease the high cost of living in the country. Margol harshly criticized the protest movement, which has already become public consensus, claiming that the protest was led by spoiled rich kids. She also hinted at racial bias in the public opinion, when she claimed that when she protested over similar issues in the past, she and her protest were never taken seriously.

Her comments enraged many people, and her attempt to appease the public by performing in a public protest in Be'er Sheva has not fared well with the audience.
