Review: THE OTHERS at Cameri Theatre

"The Others" is a drama about the exclusion of "the other" in a very "national" society. As I entered the theater I could feel the period and the setting of the show by the set: A British waving flag, a little bar in a building that looks like the old building in Tel Aviv and the sea behind.

The art department in this show did an amazing job, nothing left behind, from the set to the costume everything looked right to the period of time and a lot of small props used during the play. The clothes look fantastic, the set was well done and all the little details ensure that it all will be perfect.

Irit Kaplan as "Ida" is the owner of a guest house where all happen. She makes the connection between all the subplots and she is doing it amazing. She is dramatic but funny and gives as reliefs when needed. Netta Garti that play the role of "Dassi" (the main character) delivers great acting of an honest character that makes us feel everything she feels.

Itzhak Heskia as Mr. Mayer is touching without saying one word in this show. Dudu Niv as Marshak did a great job, and I believe that Avishay Meridor (Amiram) will be one of the busiest actors in Israel soon.

Unfortunately, the end of this show felt like the writer and Director Hillel Mitelpunkt just got tired of writing and wrote a quick end just so he can finish this play. It is too open and felt less connected to the whole plot. Throughout the show, some of the more emotional moment was cut off too quickly in a way that didn't let the audience feel and touches by it enough.

As the real story of establishing a country, there was a lot of subplot in this play, but some of them were not really important or meaningful enough for the main plot and felt a little bit like they were built only to fill a small hole in the plot. If you interested in hearing some of the untold stories of the establishment of Israel you would like this show, I enjoyed for the whole time except for the very end that was disappointing.
