Directed by Samuel Belton and Kealan Ó Fionnáin, Produced by Samuel Belton and Kealan Ó Fionnáin, ‘The Keening’ tells a story based on the famous Irish myth of the Banshee, in an exciting and refreshing way to celebrate Irish myth in Irish modern life.
‘The Keening’ is a small theatrical performance in which three actors portray an altered take on the Banshee for the duration 60 minutes. Within three scenes this play will leave you in awe and shock as a newly-wed Irish couple face the consequences of their actions as they are tormented by a wailing spirit.
The mystery surrounding anything Fae has inspired many writers that have come in contact with it, including W. B. Yeats and his poem; ‘The Stolen Child’, while this story adheres to the old Irish tale it does implement new elements to celebrate the creativity that is found in the Irish mentality.
The Local Live Performance Programming Scheme is funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and administered by Mayo County Council.
