“Glass breaks so easily. No matter how careful you are.”
The Everyman is proud to present Tennessee Williams’ classic play, The Glass Menagerie.
An unremarkable apartment, 1930’s St. Louis, Missouri.
Amanda, a force to be reckoned with despite how she might appear, clings to the romance of her past whilst ardently aspiring to a better future for her children. Her daughter Laura, left fragile by a childhood illness, shies away from the outside world, and dedicates herself to her glass menagerie; whilst her son Tom, a poet and the play’s narrator, longs to escape his warehouse job and the suffocation of his existence.
Hope delivered in the arrival of a “gentleman caller” is inevitably shattered, but memories are not so easily demolished.
The Glass Menagerie propelled Tennessee Williams to fame. Award-winning theatre director Emma Jordan returns to The Everyman stage with this new production following the success of The New Electric Ballroom by Enda Walsh (Gate Theatre) earlier this year.
