Clann Machua presents Stolen Child by Bairbre Ní Chaoimh & Yvonne Quinn, directed by Seamus Corry.
Set in 1990, Stolen Child tells the story of a young Dublin woman, Angela and her efforts to find her birth mother following the death of her adopted Mother. She enlists the help of a shambolic pivate detective Mick Tracey and with his help we are taken on a fascinating journey into Angela's Mother, Peggy's life including her childhood in County Cavan and her harrowing story of life in an orphanage in Ireland's 1940's. The play also looks at her relationship with Chris, a family doctor and how her past makes it difficult to love and be loved. What starts out as a personal odyssey for Angela and her efforts to find out about her past, takes us on a journey into the most shameful and darkest comers of Irish history, the results of which still continue to haunt us.
Clann Machua Drama Group was formed in 2010 in order to revive a great dramatic tradition in Kiltimagh. The Group host their annual ADCI/DLI One Act Festival in Kiltimagh in November each year. For the past number of years, they have taken part in the 1 Act Circuit. In 2017 the group embarked on a full-length circuit for the first time, narrowly missing out on a place in the Confined Finals with Sean O’Casey’s “Juno and the Paycock". After a very successful run with John B Keane's “Sive” and qualifying for the All Ireland in Ballyshannon they are out again this year with “Stolen Child”.
