The Dominican Foundation of St. Mary’s celebrates its 800 Jubilee Anniversary of the Foundation of the Order this year. The Friends of St. Mary’s Restoration Committee began its fundraising campaign just over a year ago. To date, much progress has been achieved which involved the Church & Priory which were badly affected The work involves both the Church and Priory buildings due to ingress of water by way of leaks in the roofs, walls and windows. The situation was worsened by damp seepage through the walls of buildings that are themselves one hundred and seventy-five years old. These walls urgently need much restorative work and dry-coursing to make them fit for purpose.

Outline estimates indicated that the work would be costly and would probably reach four to five hundred thousand Euros. With that proposition in mind a small group came together to help the Prior generate finance to pay for this essential work. The group is not exclusive and is open to anyone who may still wish to help. Such a person(s) need to indicate their wish to help the Prior, Fr. Gerard Dunne, O.P. with this massive undertaking.

Today, we launch our on-going efforts at this Civic Reception very kindly arranged by Cllr. Chris O’Leary, Cork’s Lord Mayor. We thank the Lord Mayor for his great support and kindness in hosting this Civic Reception to present this project to the people of Cork all in aid of one of Cork’s most historical and iconic churches beloved to all Corkonians home and abroad.

To mark this incredible 800 Jubilee Anniversary, the Friends of St. Mary’s wish to announce details of a GALA FUNDRAISING CONCERT at Cork Opera House on Sunday, 3rd April featuring the cream of Cork talent who are generously giving their time and talent in support.

Topping the bill is internationally-renowned soprano MAJELLA CULLAGH. Also featured: The Band of the 1st Brigade, Collins Barracks, Cork, under the baton of Capt.
