Roy Walker, we salute you. For 13 years from 1986 Roy presented Catchphrase. For 223 episodes he stood and waited for people to digest pictorial representations of well-known phrases or sayings and stood foursquare and impassive against insane and idiotic answers. What a man.
Belfast born, Roy's career started at the age of fourteen as a soprano in the celebrated Francis Longford Choir. He was Northern Ireland Champion Hammer Thrower for two years and served in the army before moving to England and becoming a professional comedian, touring in clubs and cabaret.
In 1977 he came to national prominence through TV's New Faces, receiving the highest marks ever given to a comedian. Many major television appearances followed before he became host of the aforementioned Catchphrase and achieved heroic status.
A legend to a new generation through his Carpark Catchphrase on the Chris Moyle show, Roy is busier than ever headlining concerts and festivals both in the UK and overseas.
