Me, Mollser puts the character of Mollser from Sean O’Casey’s The Plough and the Stars, centre stage. This compelling, funny and poignant performance is designed specifically for young audiences. The play introduces children to a strong-willed and passionate young woman coping with consumption against the backdrop of the 1913 Lock-Out and the Easter Rising. Mollser is a proud Dubliner struggling to thrive in the overcrowded tenements but having lost none of her curiosity and idealism.
Aimed at ages 10+, or 5th and 6th class pupils, the online resources cover topics and issues raised in the O’Casey play such as the 1916 Rising and the rights of the child that link with 5th and 6th class History, English and SPHE curricula.
In 2020, Me, Mollser will be presented in both English and Irish (Mise, Mollser) and will be touring to schools and arts venues before finishing with a week-long run on the Peacock Stage.
