Who are the great songwriters in America today? Not the most popular, not the richest. Simply the greats. Janis Ian would definitely be included as a nine-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter and still a formidable talent.
She is the writer of Jesse, an ode to impassioned commitment made famous by Roberta Flack, Stars - possibly the best song ever written about the life of a performer and recorded by artists as diverse as Mel Torme and Cher - and the seminal At Seventeen a song that brought her two Grammys and which is now reaching its third generation of listeners.
Janis’ songs have inspired and delighted us for over three decades, and have been recorded
and performed by a list of artists including Nina Simone, Dusty Springfield and Joan Baez. She remains a totally absorbing performer. A very special evening is in store.
