Fidil & Solo Cissokho at The Black Box

A very special Out to Lunch covergence where Senegal meets Donegal as the young masters of the Donegal tradition - the Fidil trio of Aidan O'Donnell, Ciaran Ó Maonaigh and Damien McGeehan are joined by seventh generation kora player Solo Cissokho - West African troubadour of the unique music of the griots, whose culture was at the heart of the mighty Manding empire that once ruled most of West Africa.

Solo is a master of the 22 stringed kora or African harp. Dividing his time between Senegal and Norway, Solo has brought the kora into new terrain, most memorably with Scandinavian fiddler Ellika Frissell and has previously performed with Altan stars Dermot Byrne and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh.

The collaboration of these four hugely talented artists demonstrates how comfortably these very distinct traditions happily converse to produce a fascinating and unique sound.
