“Brun's back catalogue is one which grows larger and even stronger with It All Starts With One, and she has managed to create her finest record yet. It is one which doesn't so much shine, but glimmer with subtle brilliance all the way through” BBC Music
“Ane Brun’s delicate, tremendous voice reveals shared intimacies with a rare poise.”
4/5 – The Independent
“This entrancing Norwegian singer-songwriter evokes a haunted Dolly Parton minus the drawl. Her songs can be simply devastating, and at other times, oddly reassuring.” 8/10 Spin Magazine

“It all starts with one” is the 8th album, from Norway’s Ane Brun. Landing in at number 1 in both her native Norway and her adopted homeland of Sweden, it became the first album by a Norwegian artist to ever top the Swedish charts. Following her move to Sweden in 2002, Ane released her debut, “ Spending time with Morgan” in 2003. Influenced by Ani DiFranco’s independent approach she set up a label with Ellekari Larsson of the Tiny and secured distribution through V2 , which saw her tour extensively around Europe. She was soon recognised as one of the finest voices of the indie folk scene but took some time out before releasing her second album, “ A temporary drive”in 2005 for which she received rave reviews. Ron Sexsmith, Teitur and Syd Matters featured on this album and her hard work paid off when in the same year she took home the Spellemannpris, the equivalent of the Norwegian Grammies, for Best Female Artist.

Following duets she had previously recorded on her earlier work, Ane was inspired to release an entire album called, “Duets” in the November of 2005featuring collaborations from some of the many artists whom Ane has been influenced by. The single "Lift Me" guest staring Madrugada gained her another Norwegian Grammy, making her a household name.

“Live in Scandinavia” showed off Ane’s impressive ability to shift her distinctive style and was released to critical acclaim in 2007, with her work rearranged to feature a string quartet. It was another year before the Valgeir Sigurðsson produced album “Changing of the Seasons” was released. Featuring string arrangement’s by Nico Mulhy, it was the recipient of yet more critical plaudits and she released yet another live recording “Live at Stockholm Concert Hall” in 2009. Back on the road, a concert at the Stockholm Concert Hall was filmed and released as a live DVD in 2009. Also in this year came the album “Sketches” which included acoustic, demo versions of the songs on ‘Changing of the Seasons’. Following a meeting with Peter Gabriel years before in which he claimed he loved her show, she received an email asking if she would join him on his New Blood tour as both a support act and also as a part of his show performing – amongst other things the role of Kate Bush for the rendition of “Don’t Give Up”

“I’ve been very inspired by singing with him and the magnificent symphonic orchestra,” she says of the almost 50 gigs they shared. “The challenge of singing new stuff was great for me and my vocal technique , and has influenced my new album”. Following the tour with Gabriel, the long awaited Tobias Froberg produced album “It all starts with one” was released in 2011 and saw a new direction for Ane. “ For me it was right to take it slowly and to have the time to develop my music, my expression and my guts to step up on the big stages. I wanted to feel ready for every new step on the ladder, and not be thrown to the lions before I was ready. I also wanted to be present in what I was doing and to do it for me, not for lots of people expecting things from me. The freedom of creativity is important, and I can’t imagine how I would have done all these things without it”

Following her acclaimed sell-out show at Dublin's Whelan’s in November, Norway's finest Ane Brun and her band will be playing her biggest Irish concert to date, playing a headline show at Dublin's Vicar St. 27th April 2012
