Millions of fans around the world will remember Ray Sawyer as the highly animated, eye patched, lead singer of the group Dr Hook, one of the biggest country / R&B bands to ever come out of the US. Their songs Sylvia's Mother Said, Sexy Eyes and the worldwide number 1 hit When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman have become "standards" and are still played on radio stations everywhere to this day. Now Wexford audiences will have their chance to see and hear Dr Hook featuring Ray Sawyer live in concert in Wexford Opera House for 1 night only on Saturday, February 19.

Dr. Hook will deliver all of the band's worldwide smash hits including Sylvia's Mother Said, Sexy Eyes, When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman, Cover of The Rolling Stone, Everybody's Makin' It, Stoned, I Missed It and many more from the 60 Gold & Platinum records they have sold over the years. His raspy, soulful, and sometimes comic vocals fronted the bands breakthrough to the ‘Cover of The Rolling Stone' and international superstar status from the late 1960's to the early 1980's.

Ray Sawyer was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, and got his first job as a musician at the age of 14, playing drums with a local band. His style was indelibly marked by the amalgam of black and white Southern music that kept Alabama dance halls hopping. "When you play Mobile, you play either Country or Rhythm & Blues, though down there, they are just about the same thing" Sawyer explains.

He got his trademark eye patch in 1967 as the result of a car accident, and he was in a wheelchair for a year. When he got back on his feet, Sawyer headed to Los Angeles, working his way back east where the core of Dr Hook was formed in time to record Shel Silverstein's score to the Dustin Hoffman movie Who Is Harry Kellerman And Why Is He Saying These Terrible Things About Me?"

With 40 gold records accumulated worldwide with the Band, Sawyer now returns with his considerable stage energy, his impish sense of humour and that unmistakable voice and image. Sawyer is back on the music scene as a potent force for good times and good music. Don't miss Ray Sawyer singing the Greatest Hits of Dr Hook!
