The Christmas Season is upon us and Wexford Opera House has several ways to immerse you in the spirit of goodwill and giving throughout December. From the magical story of Clara in The Nutcracker Suite to Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, there is something to suit all ages and tastes in a programme filled with festive goodies.

December kicks off with the magnificent Handel's Messiah on Wednesday, December 1 at 8pm. Enjoy the drama and grandeur of this magnificent music with the Irish Philharmonic Orchestra, the acclaimed Dublin Bach Singers and world class soloists Fiona Murphy, Eamonn Mulhall, Imelda Drumm and Owen Gilhooly. There will be many performances of Messiah this year, but only one in the inspiring settings and stunning natural acoustics of the Wexford Opera House making this a concert not to be missed.

Celebrate the talented children from Wexford School of Ballet and Modern Dance as they perform Tchaikovsky's much-loved piece, The Nutcracker Suite on Sunday, December 5 for 2 shows at 3pm & 8pm. Follow Clara to the land of the Snowflakes and the Sweets as she meets with enchanting characters like the Prince and Little Bo-Peep and comes face to face with the evil Rat King. This quintessential Christmas ballet is suitable for all ages and early booking is advised.
Wexford audiences will be treated to a heart-warming seasonal show in Christmas With Clare Teal & The RTÉ Concert Orchestra on Wednesday, December 8. The BBC Radio 2 presenter is one of jazz's leading female vocalists and she will be joining the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for an evening of cherished Christmas classics including Winter Wonderland, Let It Snow and Chestnuts Roasting.
In The Magic Of Christmas on Friday, December 10, The Irish Sopranos, Deidre Masterson, the Eanna McKenna Boys Choir, Wexford Stage School and Ceol Loch Garman will join forces under musical director David Wray for a musical extravaganza hosted by Angela Kelly Molloy and featuring the best in local talent.
And on Saturday, December 11, The Guinness Choir will present Bach's Christmas Oratorio, which chronicles the birth of Jesus to the adoration of the Magi in true oratorio style. David Milne directs this abridged performance with performances from accomplished soloists Róisín O'Grady, Nicola Harding, Maria de Moel, Niall Chorell and James Harrison.
There is further musical entertainment in Voices True on Friday, December 17 - a choral evening of seasonal songs and carols performed by Wexford choirs and soloists. Their selection of classical, traditional, gospel and spiritual songs promises to be ‘strong enough to rekindle the Christmas spirit in Scrooge himself'. Profits from the evening go to the County Wexford Community Workshop Enniscorthy.
Then follow the Yellow Brick Road to The Wizard Of Oz, which runs on Monday, December 20 and from Monday, December 27 to Thursday, December 30. Starring Katie Honan from BBC's Somewhere Over The Rainbow as Dorothy, this highly acclaimed production has already been a hit at the National Concert Hall. Forget Kansas!
