Tickets: €20.00
Iris Rahman, clarinet
Oli Hayhurst, bass
Gene Calderazzo, drums
After winning the ‘Perrier Young Jazz Musician of the Year' Award in 1999, Zoe Rahman has quickly established herself as one of the brightest stars on the contemporary jazz scene. Her second album, Melting Pot, was nominated in 2006 for the Mercury Music Prize and more recently she achieved an achingly beautiful fusion of jazz, classical and Bengali music in her highly-acclaimed album Where Rivers Meet, which featured arrangements of Nobel prize-winner Rabindranath Tagore's music. The programme for this tour features pieces from Where Rivers Meet as well as from Zoe's outstanding live album, and debuts some new material written specially for the tour. Rahman's willingness to push musical boundaries is matched by her technical brilliance. Noted for her inventiveness, explosive two-fisted technique, and the tumbling cascades of notes she often trades with her brother, the honey-toned clarinetist Iris Rahman, this mesmerising pianist is aided and abetted by a top-notch rhythm section featuring American drummer Gene Calderazzo and British bass player Oli Hayhurst. In the words of jazz reviewer Chris Parker, brace yourself for "all the punch, pith and sheer verve of the Rahman live act".

A witch boy tarries in a valley community, in love with a local girl named Barbara Allen. The superstitious townspeople resent their relationship and their constant meddling threatens the couple's happiness. Tickets: €8.00 / €12.00 / €15.00
The National Chamber Choir will give a performance of Tarik O'Regan's setting of Acallam na Senorach / An Irish Colloquy, a concert-length piece, scored for chamber choir, guitar and bodhrain. It is a rendering in musical terms of Acallam na Senorach, perhaps the most important Middle Irish narrative dating from the 12th or 13th century. The text follows two aged Irish warrior-heroes (Oisin and Cailte, inexplicably still alive, centuries after the famed battles in which they fought) as they travel across Ireland with the newly-arrived St. Patrick. Their tales are told through mystical stories, often referencing the natural geography of the landscape, and short poems in medieval Irish. British classical musician and sound engineer, Stewart French will play solo guitar and the performance will be conducted by one of the most celebrated and well-known vocal ensemble conductors, Paul Hillier.
