WHAT THE LADYBIRD HEARD Comes To The Belgrade Theatre ImageOne little ladybird will be embarking on a big adventure this Easter as Kenny Wax Family bring their colourful new production of What the Ladybird Heard to the Belgrade Theatre.

Adapted from the bestselling book by former children's laureate Julia Donaldson, this charming family show heads for Coventry in time for the school holidays.

When Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len hatch a cunning plan to steal a prize cow, it looks as though there's trouble afoot on the farm. Luckily, the crafty robbers have overlooked the smallest member of the farmyard family, who just so happens to have a clever plan of her own!

Join the woolly sheep, the hairy hog, the fat red hen and the dainty dog along with the heroic ladybird herself in this heart-warming story of how the tiniest, quietest creature saves the day. Expect lots of laughs, live music, audience participation and eye-catching puppetry inspired by Lydia Monks' charming illustrations when the show arrives in Coventry 13-14 April.

First published in 2009, What the Ladybird Heard is one of several collaborations between the prize-winning author Julia Donaldson and critically acclaimed illustrator Lydia Monks, including the sequels What the Ladybird Heard Next and What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday. Together, What the Ladybird Heard and What the Ladybird Heard Next have sold over 1.5 million copies in multiple formats worldwide.

One of the best-loved children's writers working today, Julia Donaldson served as Children's Laureate from 2011-2013. Among her most popular creations are Room on the Broom, Stick Man and the phenomenally successful The Gruffalo.

Lydia Monks is one of the most original picture book artists working today. Her distinctive use of colour and collage has won her critical acclaim and several awards, including the Smarties Prize. Her work with Julia Donaldson includes The Singing Mermaid, Sugarlump and the Unicorn and the Princess Mirror-belle series.

What the Ladybird Heard is directed by Graham Hubbard, and produced by Kenny Wax and Matthew Gregory. Music is by Andy Shaw and Jon Fiber, design by Bek Palmer and Lydia Monks, and lighting by Ric Mountjoy. Casting includes Emma Carroll (Lily/Ladybird), Edward Way (Hefty Hugh), Emma Breton (Farmer), Benedict Hastings (Lanky Len) and Will Steele (Understudy/ASM).

What the Ladybird Heard runs at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 April, and is recommended for children aged 3+. Tickets are available to book now by calling the box office on 024 7655 3055, or visiting www.belgrade.co.uk, where prices are even cheaper.
