Verdant and Pemberley Productions Presents PRIVATE PEACEFUL

Following on from the worldwide success of Michael Morpurgo's best selling book, film and stage play War Horse, Simon Reade adapts and directs a stage version of Morpurgo's award-winning book, Private Peaceful. This new Irish co-production by Verdant and Pemberley Productions visits the Everyman Theatre, Cork, Tuesday 16th - Thursday 18th May, 8pm.

Private Peaceful is a timely reminder of the heroic sacrifices that were made by those involved in World War 1. The story charts the life of a young soldier, Tommo Peaceful, a private played by Shane O'Regan, in this new Irish production of the play, who faces the firing squad for cowardice. Shane's talents have seen him taking the role of Shaggy Callaghan in Conall Morrison's Borstal Boy and most recently he played the lead role of Mark Renton in Reality:Check Productions critically acclaimed run of the stage adaptation of Trainspotting.

As Tommo sits in his cell awaiting for sunrise he thinks back to some of his fondest memories and reflects on the events that made him the person he is today. In his recollection Thomas 'Tommo' Peaceful recounts the fact that he and his elder brother Charlie do everything together. Such as memories from their schooldays together, facing personal problems together, sleep and eat together; they even fell in love with the same girl. But now they have to face the many facets of war together. Can a bond and loyalty between two brothers overcome the brutality of the front lines and bring them safely home? When the lines of heroism and cowardice collide, what can one man or even a brother do to fight the injustices of it all?

The play highlights the dreadful horrors of war while celebrating the joyfulness of life, both which are clearly bound together in this not-to-missed, magnificent one-man theatre production.
