The Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra's inaugural tour of the United States in 2009 was an enormous success. The DPO performed 49 concerts in 24 states, which was the most extensive tour of any visiting orchestra in the U.S.A. that year. Anticipating this prestigious tour of China, Conductor Derek Gleeson states: "Our upcoming China tour gives us an extraordinary opportunity to bring both European classical music masterworks and our own rich Irish traditional music heritage to a vast audience in China, representing the musical talent and vibrancy of a modern 21st century Ireland. This entire group of gifted and accomplished performers is looking forward to the tour with great enthusiasm. We are proud to act as Ireland's cultural ambassadors abroad."
The Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra China tour is supported by Culture Ireland, Department of the Taoiseach, John and Pauline Ryan and The Ireland Funds, CRH, PCH International, Bill Dempsey, and Dublin City Council.
