Temple Bar celebrates Bloomsday on June 16th by whisking patrons back to Joycean Dublin. Why not enjoy a Bloomsday Breakfast or a gorgonzola sandwich whilst sipping on some burgundy wine and sample some of the many jazz sessions which will take place in Temple Bar all through Bloomsday and last into the evening. Retrace the steps of Leopold Bloom the main protagonist in Bloomsday as he wanders through the heart of the city here in Temple Bar. Take a moment to stop at Merchants Arch where Leopold bought his copy of the ‘Sweets of Sin'. Outdoor jazz performance will lead patrons from Merchants Arch to Fleet Street.
The Good Times Jazz Band start the celebration from noon to 2 pm at Fleet Street. It is free and open to the public. At Merchants Arch, the Bloomsday Jazz Band perform from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
The Gallagher's Boxty House (20-21 Temple Bar) offers a full Irish breakfast (E8.50) will include lightly-fried kidneys, in the Joycean tradition. During the afternoon they'll be offering "a gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of Burgundy" for E5.00. The lunch and dinner menus will include specials such as liver in breadcrumb, and other offal delicacies. All of this to the accompaniment of some lively jazz music. Fitzsimons (Essex Street West, Temple Bar) will serve a traditional Blomsday breakfasts served until 6pm and have a live jazz session in the evening.
At the Gogartys Temple Bar (58/59 Fleet Street), they offer a special four course lunch menu (including wine) for only 25 euro. There will be Blooms Day Specials and live traditional music which runs from lunchtime until 2:30 am every day. The Porterhouse (16/18 Parliament Street), Ireland's most famous micro-brewery hosts an array of activities and live music to celebrate Blooms Day. Delicious bar food and of course, the best beers will be served.
