'A Taste of Ahakista' in conjunction with 'A Taste of West Cork' presents 'Music by Candlelight' at St. Patrick's church Ahakista, West Cork, on Friday, 16th September at 8pm. Tickets €15 at 'Arundels By The Pier'. Telephone 02767033.
After a hugely successful concert last year, the 'Music by Candlelight' concert in St. Patrick's Church, Ahakista, West Cork, on Friday 16th September, will once again be presented by RTÉ lyric fm's Evelyn Grant. This year her quartet line-up features vocalist Camilla Griehsel, with pianist Maurice Seezer, 'cellist Gerry Kelly, and Evelyn herself on flute and piano. This event is a fundraiser for Rusnacahara National School and St. Patrick's church.
Camilla Grieshel, who has been resident in Schull since 2003, originally hails from Sweden and has over thirty years of international professional singing, in a range of roles and disciplines. From pop recording artist to avant-garde opera, traditional jazz to South American folk, Camilla is dedicated to breaking down barriers through the intimacy of music. She has worked closely, in recent years, with pianist, song writer, and film and theatre music composer, Maurice Seezer, who is also a West Cork resident. His film scores have won him two Golden Globe nominations. Both Maurice and Camilla have collaborated with the late Colin Vercombe (aka Black) and the late Fergus O'Farrell of Interference.
Regular listeners to Evelyn Grant' Weekend Drive on RTÉ lyric fm will be familiar with her informal presentation style and her passion for music. Together, the quartet have chosen a colourful programme that ranges from Romantic to Latin, with many shades in between - and some surprise gems. Gerry Kelly has been an active member of the local community since taking on a role as PR adviser and photographer for the annual Graham Norton Ahakista Quiz, in aid of the Ahakista Community Association.
There will be a pre concert dinner in 'Arundels By The Pier'. Telephone 02767033 for concert and dinner bookings.
This concert is part of the 'Taste of West Cork' festival.
