Conor Begley has struck gold for Bardic Theatre this past weekend having been chosen as the 2017/18 winner of AIMS 'Best Actor' Award for his recent portrayal of Judas Iscariot in Bardic's dazzling production of Jesus Christ Superstar earlier this year.

Conor was one of three nominee's shortlisted in the Sullivan Section, from over one hundred Irish musical societies, for this award alongside fellow competitors Ray Collins (Teyve - Fiddler on The Roof for Waterford Musical Society) and Anthony Fitzpatrick (Bill Snibson - Me & My Girl for Dundalk Musical Society).

The Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) provides a voice to musical theatre in Ireland. Over 130 musical societies, throughout the whole of Ireland, are members of AIMS. The Adjudication & Awards Scheme is one of the most popular AIMS activities. The scheme is designed to constantly raise standards and push forward musical theatre in Ireland. The AIMS Awards Weekend is celebrated annually in June and attended by almost 1000 people, it is the largest event of its kind held in Ireland. It brings together people who have a common love of musical theatre.

Picking up the South-East Region Trophy on Saturday night at the INEC in Killarney along with Bardic Artistic Director Stephanie Faloon and Superstar's Damien Kivlehan who played the role of Jesus of Nazareth, Conor spoke of his delight "I'm over the moon to not only have been shortlisted for Best Actor but totally shocked to have won. It's an amazing buzz for me personally but also for everyone back home given this is our very first year at the AIMS Awards" he continued "A massive thanks goes to Stephanie for her direction and vision and also to my fellow competitors."

Conor would like to thank all his friends, family and those at Bardic for their continued support and hardwork on another successful Bardic production. When pressed on what production will be next, Stephanie simply said "You'll have to wait and see but do keep your eyes glued to our social channels".
