Irish National Youth Ballet "Some of the best ballet dancing seen here for years" The Irish Times
The Irish National Youth ballet nurtures young dancers and gives them the opportunity to work in a semi professional environment. Auditions are held annually to choose 40 of the best dancers who go on to work with teachers, choreographers, professional stage crews and lighting designers.
In April they have a ballet treat in store.
The Snow Queen.
Gerda is walking with her Grandmother and dear friend Kay when a sudden snow-storm surrounds them, in the midst of which swirls the Snow Queen. She bewitches Kay and entices him to fly with her. Distraught to have lost her friend, Gerda, together with her Grandmother, embarks on a journey to find him. Along the way they are set upon by a band of gypsy robbers but are helped by the Raven Prince and his flock of ravens. A wing of doves show Gerda a vision of Kay,
locked in the land of snow. When she eventually reaches her friend, unable to free him from his cage of icicles, she bursts into tears. The warmth of her tears and of her heart causes the ice and snow to melt away, and Kay and Gerda are able to return to their former existence, though several years wiser.
The Ugly Duckling
It is Springtime on The Farm and Mother Duck is waiting for her ducklings to hatch. All The Farm animals gather around to greet the new ducklings and welcome them onto The Farm. The egg cracks and out come five fluffy yellow ducklings followed by one rather large, grey Ugly Duckling!
This is the story of the Ugly Duckling who is forced by The Farm animals to run away from home and leave her family. She journeys into the forest, has a battle with some hungry Cats and finally discovers her destiny....
South Pacific
It is somewhere in the South Pacific during World War II. Nellie Forbush is relaxing on the beach with her nursing buddies, and a few of the marines, but it looks like she may have man troubles.
